Its official!
I spoke with Phil Southerland, Founder and President of Team Type 1 and I am now the Captain of Team Type 2! We will be working to put a team made up of all cyclists with Type 2 Diabetes together to compete in RAAM 2009.
I will be heading up most efforts to make Team Type 2 a reality! This is a dream come true for me! My passion to educate and inspire others whom are afflicted with Type 2 Diabetes and are dealing with weight issues is moving to an international stage! We can truly change the world with this effort!
Look for more exciting news about Team Type 2 in the weeks and months to come!

Great news!
I just got word from Joe Eldridge, Pro Cyclist with Team Type 1 (and a really cool guy) and Phil Southerland, President and Founder of Team Type 1 that they both think that Team Type 2 is a great idea and want to move forward. Phil even asked me to head it up!

Drat!
I was all set and stoked to ride the 16.5 miles into my client's location in LODO this morning, when 3 miles into the ride the seat post on my single speed bent backward. This bend caused the rack to rub the rear tire. So, I turned around and rode back home standing the whole way. It appears that the seat post couldn't handle the weight of me, and the loaded truck pack, and panniers. DRAT! :( (I will post a pic later)
It is set to be a spectacular day here in Denver, what a bummer that I wasn't able to ride. I'll try again on Thursday morning. :)
On another note. I went out for a mile run last night after a rather trying day at work. I sure am not very good at running. I have a long way to go before I feel comfortable doing it. I am happy to have gotten out there and moving again. Felt good to be out.

What a great day!
WOW! Today was a great day to be out skiing! It is difficult to imagine that only a few short years ago, there would have been no way that I would have even considered downhill skiing. And now, I LOVE IT!!
I am so happy that I can LIVE life now, and not simply watch it slip by outside my window.
Here are a few photos of this beautiful day on the slopes of Breckenridge, Colorado.
Oh, and it was 55 degrees in Denver when we got home. We could have gone for a bike ride on the same day as skiing! That is why living here ROCKS!

Seasonal transisiont
It is a strange feeling for me to actually have a seasonal sports transition.
We are heading out for a ski day at Breckenridge today. A wonderful gift from Patty's parents.
Now to the strange part. In years past, seasonal transitions simply meant changing from riding the trainer or rollers indoors to riding outside. This year, it is changing from skiing to cycling. I am finding it difficult to choose which activity to do! So, the snow in the high country wins out today, and one more time then the ski season is over for me.
Anyone else have this same feeling this time of year?

Where has March gone?
March has slipped by so fast!
It started at the end of February with the Tour-de-Cure spin weekend. What fun to be a part of that event!
Next was the Denver Diabetes Expo. WOW! I was blown away by this experience. I felt a little strange to have so many people make such a big deal about me, or about meeting me, or just wanting to talk to me. I am so humbled that my personal journey with Type 2 Diabetes and weight loss interests so many. To me, it is simply my life.
As the Tour-de-Cure committee, we had a very successful event at Expo. Far exceeding our goals. What a great feeling to have been part of this with such incredible people!
After Expo was a 4 day ski trip to Breckenridge and A-Basin. Day one at Breck had no lift lines, so Patty and I just kept going... run after run... More skiing than either of us had ever done. The last run was difficult. My legs were tired. VERY TIRED. I took a nice slow pace down the mountain and called it a day. We both agree that our legs were to tired to ski A-basin the next day, so we just hung out in recovery mode. :)
I have been toying with the thought of setting up a team to ride in RAAM in 2009.
Stay tuned, I just registered the domain name of teamtype2.us for the web site. My first choice was teamtype2.com, but is along with teamtype2.org is already registered. Will have to see if I can get my hands on those names. :)
Ok, enough for now. I will try to do better on updating this blog. :)

My story on Denver News2
The piece Denver News2 did on me for the upcoming Denver Diabetes Expo aired last night. I am quite pleased with the results. The folks at News2 were fun to work with and I think they did a great job of putting this together.
I hope this can help inspire and motivate others who are living with Type II Diabetes or dealing with weight issues.
Please let me know what you think.

DTC and back with Sunshine
Went out on a ride to the DTC today with Sunshine on our MTBs. Great weather today. The hi temp was forecast to be over 60!
The ride was progressing nicely. Met a father and daughter. Sunshine liked the color of the little girl's bike, so we had to get a photo of them together. We parted ways, then a few miles later, I got a flat. We pulled off to make repairs.
I pulled the wheel and showed Sunshine the 'goathead' torn that had caused my flat. I actually removed 4 of those evil little things from my rear tire! grrr.
So. I showed all of this to Sunshine who immediately began to inspect her front tire. Next thing I hear is her say, "Hey, I have one of those in my tire too!" Before I could say a word I hear, "psssssss." Yep, she pulled the 'goathead' out. Turns out she would have been better off leaving well enough alone. (ROFLMAO!) I wish I could say I would have advised her to leave it alone. But I doubt I would have had that insight. ;)
You can see by slide show below, that she handled it with 'grace' and 'style' as she does all things. :D
